The mission of the Ann Richards STEAM Academy Dance Department is to culture, educate, and produce industrious youth through diverse styles of dance.

 

The Program

 

The Dance program at Ann Richards Middle School Dance Department has a diverse dance program that teaches physical education and proper dance techniques in several styles ranging from Ballet, Modern, Lyrical, and Jazz to Latin, Hip-Hop, African dance and more.

 

There are  five major components of the dance program:

​

  1. Beginner  ( Dance Level I ) classes,

  2. Intermediate- Advanced ( Dance Level II) class,

  3.  Rangers Junior Dance Company ( Dance Level II),

  4. Advanced ( Dance Level III) The Rangers  Dance Repertoire Company class,

  5.  The after school program for The Ann Richards STEAM Academy  Rangerettes Drill Team.

Beginner Level Dance (Dance Level I)

The Beginner Level Dance Classes are introduced to basic steps and techniques of various styles of dance. Students in this course will be able to perform in the school's end of year dance concert, Dance EXPO for their final project grade. In addition, students interested in advancing to Level II in this course, must in auditon at the end of the year to show their skill of proper dance technique.

 

Intermediate- Advanced Level Dance (Dance Level II)

The  Intermediate- Advanced Level Dance Classes, for seventh and eighth graders only, are preselected based on student's caliber of dance performance and comprehension of Ballet, Modern, and other codified dance techniques. These classes serve as a prerequisite into the school's dance companies,  Rangers Dance Repertoire, Rangers Junior Dance Company, and other performance opportunities in the local performing Arts community. Eighth graders in this class get the opportunity to perform solos and audition for pre-professional programs such as the dance program of the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts.

 

 

Advanced Level Dance- Rangers Dance Repertoire Company Class

(Dance Level III)

The Advanced Level Dance Classes, for seventh and eighth graders only, are auditioned and pre-selected based on student's caliber of dance performance and comprehension of Ballet, Modern, and other codified dance techniques. This class serves as the school's dance company,  Rangers Dance Repertoire, class. Students in this class have a strong desire to thrive in the dance profession and are expected to showcase strong character and discipline in and outside of the dance studio. Students in this part of our program are pre-professional and are heavily involved in the local and national dance community. Eighth graders in this class get the opportunity to perform solos and audition for pre- professional High school programs such as the dance program of the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts and also get the opportunity to audition for dance intensives and scholarships.

ARSA Rangerettes Drill Team

A NEW! addition to the Ann  Richards STEAM Academy, the Drill Team specializes in all classical dance forms taught in the other components of the department, but a focus on precision and military style dance. These students perform for our school  football, basketball, and other sporting events and serve as a part of the spreading the school spirit and pride of our campus.
